Welcome Back Boo,
With the cost of housing on the rise, it’s difficult to afford a big house unless you’re earning a lot of money. That means a lot of us end up living in places that are a bit smaller than we would ideally like to. When you’re living in a small house it can be difficult to keep the place clean and organized and before you know it, it can get incredibly cramped. But living in a small house can actually be of benefit because it forces you to live a more reserved, and often cheaper, lifestyle. You just need to follow these tips to help keep things organized.
When you’re working with a limited space you need to be careful what you buy and put into the house. That means keeping a handle on those impulse buys. Even if you’re sensible with your purchases, you’ll still end up with clutter around the house. That’s why it’s so important to declutter the house often. Go through the house room by room and look through your things. Ask yourself when the last time you used it was; if you can’t remember then you probably don’t need it and it can go. If you’ve got stuff that you don’t use that often but you don’t want to get rid of it, the best thing to do is get yourself a self storage unit and put it in there. That way, you get the best of both worlds. You can keep all of the clutter out of the house but you don’t have to get rid of anything that you want to keep.
Being economical with space is the most important thing when you’re living in a small house. That means you need to create multi-purpose rooms that you can use for lots of different things. For example, when you’re designing your living room in a small house, you can’t fill the whole area with large sofas etc. Put in some smaller chairs to create an area for relaxing and watching TV etc. and then you can put a small desk in the corner to create an office space or put a dining table in. By dividing up the rooms into zones, you effectively double the amount of rooms that you’ve got in the house making it easier to keep everything organized.
Having stuff lying around everywhere will quickly clutter up the house making it feel cramped. That’s why storage is doubly important in a small home. But what you’ve got to remember is that you can’t afford to waste large amounts of space with big wardrobes etc. You’ll have to be a bit more inventive. You can get furniture with storage built in to make good use of the space you do have. Any small alcoves around the house are also good places for closets or shelves.
Don’t see a small house as a bad thing, there are a lot of benefits as long as you organize it properly and make the best use of the space you’ve got.
Remember to keep on slaying,
See you next time xoxo
