Easy Ways to Make a Dark Room feel Brighter

Welcome Back Boo,

I hope you are well!

There is quite possibly nothing worse than having a room that feels worn out, dingy and just not welcoming in general. The main cause for this is usually not enough lighting, but luckily there are things that you can try and do to turn this around without breaking the bank.

Paint and Decorate

The best thing that you can do to make your room feel brighter is paint the ceiling white. If you know that the room’s ceiling is painted in a very dark colour or if there are wooden beams running across the roof then this is probably having a huge effect on the entire room. For this reason, you need to try and buy a can or two of white paint. This will give the ceiling a much fresher coat and the bright white paint will reflect the light and bounce it around the room.

Accent Colours

If you have accent colours such as deep colours then it is probably best to get rid. Deep colours won’t be doing you any favours in a dark room and it will just make the room feel way darker than it needs to be. If you have to use dark colours then opt for a small space to paint and then do the other walls in a bright colour. Another tip would be for you to try and use a stencilled accent across the ceiling. You can try and have leaves, flowers, abstract designs and more. This will make the room feel decorative but you won’t have to compromise on the overall look and

feel of the home.

Natural Light

Natural light is way better when compared to anything else, but if your room is dark then there is a high chance that you don’t have a lot of this coming in. It’s so important that you are able to make the most of what you have- so if you have windows or even blinds then get rid of them. Instead try and have window coverings that don’t block out the light entirely. Cloth blinds are also great as they are never fully opaque.

Replace your Overhead Lights

If you have some overhead lights that are harsh then this can actually highlight the fact that the room is dark. Instead of flooding the space with huge lights, try and have smaller lights spaced throughout the room. If you aren’t sure which lighting to go with then Lasvit lighting is ideal and it is a fantastic way for you to make the most out of the space that you are working with. Of course, when you are choosing your lighting you do need to make sure that the fixture isn’t too dark either as this will really make the room feel much darker than it actually is.

So as you can see, there are so many things that you have to take into account when you are designing your rooms, and when working with a dark room, you really do have to put the work in to create the best appearance.

Remember to keep on slaying,

See you next time xoxo
