How To Stop Relying On Your Parents As An Adult

Photo

We all like to think we are independent by the age of 18 but the truth is that logic is nonsense. Whether we’re teenagers or in our twenties, grown men and women can’t help but pick up the phone and ask the folks for help. And, there is nothing wrong with it because it is their job. It’s one of the reason pregnancy scares young people straight!

Adulthood does come with rules though, and one of them is to be self-sustaining. That’s difficult when mum and dad are so eager to help. Relying on them only causes us problems in the long-term, so it’s time to stop. Here are the ways how.

Think Before You Phone

As soon as a problem raises its ugly head, it’s tempting to contact mum and dad. In fact, some of us do it automatically without attempting to fix the issue. The comfort blanket is so warm that it’s tough to resist. The trick is to think first and call later. By going through the options in our head, we can come up with the solutions. When we have them, the world doesn’t seem as challenging and there is no need for parental words of wisdom. Well, there is but not in this particular scenario.

Hustle

One of the main reasons to call ma and pa is money. Without it, the Earth stops spinning and life gets tricky. Thankfully, mum and dad have lots of spare cash (yes, even if they say they don’t) and are always willing to help. Sure, there are occasions when we don’t have any other alternatives and a loan is necessary. However, usually, the funds are available elsewhere if we are willing to hustle by working overtime or starting a new business venture. Debt consolidation loans from Buddy loans can help in the darkest times, too. Plus, there is always haggling.

Surround Yourself With Likeminded People

On the whole, it’s better to have a range of personalities by our side so we can learn more. In this case, it’s savvy if they have one thing in common: independence. Surrounding ourselves with friends who don’t rely on their parents will encourage us to follow their lead. Not only is it a lesson but no one wants to admit their mum lends them money and pays their rent when everyone else works their arses off. When it happens, it’s mortifying.

And Bounce Off Them

The difference between asking friends for help and parents is advice. Mates will offer their point of view whereas mums and dads will tell us what to do and give us what we need to do it. Bouncing off pals is an excellent way to be confident in our next steps because they can offer encouragement as well as tips. Crucially, they don’t tend to give us the answers (money, for example). And, it’s not cheating because we all need a strong support group in our life.

What we don’t need is a nanny who will wipe our bottoms when things get tough.

Remember to keep on slaying,

See you next time xoxo

Start Believing In Financial Healing

In many ways, money defines our lives. It’s what we spend our days trying to get, and it’s the grease that enables us to move through life with less effort. Without money, life quickly grinds to a halt, you have to rely on other people, you lose your sense of freedom, and you begin to fear the future.

Enlightened people like to think that money is a nice thing to have, but not the be all and end all of our existence. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not extremely important. Alongside love, connection, spirituality, and health, money gives us the stuff in life that we want.

This is why when things go wrong with money, it can be especially painful. People make mistakes with their money all the time. They give it to the wrong people, they invest in the wrong businesses, and they buy the wrong things. Our relationship with money is usually kept on the low: people don’t like talking about it. But when things go awry, it can leave us feeling weak, ashamed, and often depressed.

Healing from money problems is a challenge that many of us will face during our lives. We need to deal with the regret and missed opportunities, and face the fact that sometimes life just isn’t fair.

Money problems can emerge from all sorts of underlying issues. A demanding spouse can put substantial financial pressures on us. A need to buy things just to feel happy can result in huge debts run up on credit cards. Even buying the wrong house in the wrong area can lead to negative equity, killing wealth and leading to terrible regrets in the process.

What is needed is a way to overcome money problems and to heal. Here are some of the steps that you can take to do just that. Continue reading

A Fresh Girl Gang

Whether it’s at the gym or in your local community centre; fitness and exercise classes are the perfect, fun way to start enjoying getting active. A class full of people all learning together is a great way to meet new friends, and you’ll be able to encourage each other and push one another forward. It might be something like Zumba or keep fit that spurs you on, or perhaps your new team will be collecting that football trophy before you know it; doing achieving things together is the best way to encourage your fitness journey.

Dancing to music is the ideal way to release those endorphins and let loose after a busy week. Picking up the skills in a dance and exercise class will allow you to do your own sessions at home in between going to see your classmates and teacher. You can meet up with fellow members of the sessions and enjoy your yoga or pilates together; make it social so that it’s always a fun activity and you’ll never get bored.

Plenty Of Fresh Air

If you’d rather blow away the cobwebs and get outside more; a running group is a great way to exercise with company, and you can all work together to get faster and build up your stamina. Jogging, hiking, and running groups are another way to ensure that you can continue the sessions outside of the set days and times so that you can increase the amount you do.

Calling a friend or running partner to utilise your local park together can end up in a well-deserved coffee and a catch up afterwards. Have a look online, or in your local paper to see what’s happening in and around your area. You can contact a group through email or social media, and begin talking to members before you meet up for your first session, which will help alleviate any nerves.

Remember to keep on slaying,

See you next time xoxo
